The Heritage Railroad Corporation (HRC) is a wholly owned, private, non-profit subsidiary of the Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee (CROET). It was established specifically for maintaining and managing the 11.5 railway system serving the East Tennessee Technology Park (the area within and immediately surrounding the former Department of Energy K-25 Site), and upgrading its track and facilities to FRA standards.

CROET’s mission is the “Reindustrialization” of the former K-25 Site, wherein it is transformed into “Heritage Center,” a commercial business and industrial park by the year 2010, with both start-up and mature businesses leasing or buying land, buildings and facilities no longer needed by DOE. The vision has already materialized substantially with over 60 acres and 1 million square feet of space having been leased to over 40 companies employing over 400 people.

Principle commodities: HAZMAT, heavy machinery, re-built railcars. Also, the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum’s “Secret City Excursion/Dinner Train,” carries approximately 4,500 passengers each year.

Principle Industries Served: British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL), MHF Logistical Solutions, GTS Duratek, Cavanaugh Services Group, East Tennessee Rail Car Services, and Southern Appalachia Railway Museum
