Brief history of the line:

In 1986 Bill Drunsic (NERR President), along with two visionary partners formed the Nashville and Eastern Railroad to resurrect short-line freight rail operations over 110 miles of neglected, soon-to-be abandoned track in middle Tennessee. Since its initial start-up in the mid-eighties, NERR has worked collaboratively with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Nashville and Eastern Railroad Authority (NERA) to invest $43.5 million into essential rail infrastructure improvements. Over the years, 110 miles of active track has been reconstructed and 77 bridges upgraded.

Today, NERR plays a vital economic role in central Tennessee by providing essential freight service to its industrial and commercial customers, from Nashville to Algood, Tennessee.
